Student Information

Hello Everyone,

Congratulations to all those who tested on Saturday, both grading were pretty big and it was a long day, but everyone pulled through. The results have been posted on the web and up on the notice board of the dojo.

Sensei Jon’s 25th anniversary is fast approaching and the last day to sign up and pay is this Saturday 4th September. There are limited spaces, and we make no promises about being able to accommodate you if you do not sign up before this date. Save yourself (and me) the trouble and heartache and sign up before this Saturday.

Sensei Jon’s is on 11th September, and so that you have no excuse not to attend we have cancelled all other classes on this day. The regular Thornbury and Oakleigh adults classes won’t be held on 11th September, so come down to Thornbury at 4 pm and do Sensei Jon’s special class (as long as you have signed up that is).

Juniors:

There is a test coming up in 3 weeks. It will be held at the Thornbury dojo on September 18th. All those who want to participate in the test need to be training at least twice a week in order to prepare. If for some reason you are unable to do that, please speak with an instructor. Testing booklets are also available for collection from the front desk and need to be filled out and handed back a week before the test. If you have any questions about how to fill it out, ask someone behind the front desk at the dojo.

While we are doing test practice, there will be no badge testing. You should use any extra time you have on the mats getting ready for your grading, practicing ukemi or techniques from your test. We will resume badge testing after the grading.

Also because we have a special event on September 11th, there will be a slight change to the Oakleigh schedule. The class that normally runs from 2:30 until 3:30 will start half an hour earlier. Instead it will start at 2:00 and finish at 3:00. This is for one day only, Saturday 11th September. The class at Thornbury will remain the same.

Have a great week everyone and see you at the dojo.

Aikido Shudokan operates schools in Thornbury and Oakleigh in Melbourne, and tests are run for both schools every two months, with tests for higher graded students held three times a year. The testing process in martial arts enables men and women to set themselves a goal, improve their fitness and push themselves to the next level.

Hello everybody,

I hope everyone had a good weekend. Just a few shout-outs and congratulations to begin with. Those from the Oakleigh dojo may remember Gavin Pang (or Pangdemonium as I preferred to call him) Well, congrats goes out to him as he has recently gotten engaged and is getting married at the end of the year. Sensei Matt Horton has made a comeback, rejoining us from Sydney (so welcome back) and congratulations goes out to him as well as he is also engaged. It just goes to show, Aikidokas get the girls!

In other news test practice has begun! All classes are now test practice and will be open to all grades so you can get in as much extra training as you want. Organise your partner asap and try to train with them as much as possible over the next two weeks.

The times for the test are as follows:

8th-4th Kyu test: Briefing starts at 12:30, and the test starts at 1:00

4th Kyu and above Test: Briefing starts at 3:30 and the test will begin at 4:00

Don’t miss the briefing, it’s the important part where they tell you where to stand and being present for it lessens the possibility of making a fool out of yourself. Even if you have graded before, things change from test to test so make sure you are on the mats in your dogi at the beginning of the briefing.

After the test everyone is invited to wind down and relax after their hard work with dinner and drinks at the Peacock. It’s 210 High st Northcote and we will be heading over after the end of the second test, so probably around 6:30 onwards. Everyone is welcome, the more the merrier.

Last of all we have a very special event coming up at the dojo. On the 11 of September we will be holding a function at Thornbury to celebrate Sensei Jon’s 25th Aikido anniversary (his 25th year of practicing aikido that is) This is quite an achievement so please come along and help us celebrate. For those of you who are a little newer to the dojo and havent been out to the city dojo (run by Sensei Jon) the day will include a special class run by the man himself, as well as a short demonstration, dinner and drinks and a special presentation. The cost is $25 a head and the day will start with an hour and a half class at 4 pm. Please sign up at the front desk.

JUNIORS:

Don’t forget about badge testing. Test practice will be begining in a few weeks, and during this time we will not be doing badge testing (So get them now, while you still can). The date for the next test is September 18th, please keep it in mind and try to keep the morning free.

Osu! that’s that, have a great week everybody
