Aikido for Kids
The Art of Aikido is based upon strong traditions to help kids between the ages of 6 and 12 learn. Students learn how to control their movements, and how to work with others in practising the Art.
Aikido Shudokan has been teaching children for over 25 years and has two established martial arts schools teaching children in Melbourne: Thornbury and Oakleigh. It provides children with the right environment for them to build confidence, discipline, focus, coordination, social skills and fitness all whilst they are having fun.

The average junior student trains around 2-3 times a week and in the class, the kids do exercises, martial arts techniques and play some games, too. The Chief Instructor of the Shudokan is Joe Thambu Sensei and he began learning Aikido from his uncle when he was a young boy.
The biggest event of the year is the Annual Demonstration where all students, children & adults, display their skills in Aikido to friends, family and members of the public. A lot of practice goes into making every demonstration a success. We hold other regular events for the children such as gradings, special training days and school holiday programs.
