Jon Marshall Sensei’s career in Aikido began in 1985 at the age of 10, under the guidance of Joe Thambu Shihan at Aikido Shudokan in Melbourne. In 1990, he tested and received his first dan at the age of 15 and in 1994 he tested and received his second dan from Mori Michiharu Shihan. In 1996, Jon Marshall Sensei moved to Japan to further his study of Aikido at the Yoshinkan Aikido Hombu (HQ) in Tokyo, Japan.
From 1997-1998, Jon Marshall Sensei took part in the seventh International Instructors Course at the hombu dojo and received his 3rd Dan on completion of the course. Following his graduation from the Instructor’s course, Jon Marshall Sensei became an instructor at the Yoshinkan Hombu dojo, where he taught the Senshusei and the international classes. He also accompanied senior hombu instructors overseas to assist with numerous seminars.
In 2001, Jon Marshall Sensei was promoted to the rank of fourth dan black belt and more recently in 2006; he was tested to the level of fifth dan by Inoue Kyoichi Kancho and Chida Tsutomu Shihan. In December 2012 he was promoted to the rank of 6th Dan by Inoue Kyoichi Kancho, for his lifelong comittment to Aikido and excellence in both teaching and technique.
Jon Marshall Sensei is now the senior instructor of the Aikido Shudokan in Melbourne and has accompanied Joe Thambu Shihan on a number of international tours where he has taught in various countries, namely: Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Poland and the United States.
